Listening Post - Media focus on Austria - 27 Mar 09 - Part 2
The Listening Post looks at how the world's media has used the trial of Josef Fritzl, the Austrian man who imprisoned and raped his daughter in a dungeon for 24 years, as an opportunity to take a close look at Austria itself. Plus, the Arab Oprah phenomenon.

The Corrs Goodbye - Live in Ischgl, Austria
The Corrs Goodbye - Live in Ischgl, Austria
The Corrs Perform Goodbye Live in Ischgl, Austria back in November 27, 2004 This is a fan-captured video.... ^^ For Corrs fans, this is a very emotional moment for a number of reasons. What is lacking in audio/video quality is made up for by the significance. This performance of "Goodbye" was captured by fans from the French-based Corrs fanboard, Référence Corrs in the ski resort town of Ischgl, Austria on November 27, 2004 where the Corrs performed to open the ski season. This "walkoff" tune is a very deep song that asks some of life's post pertinent questions - questions which confronted the Corrs after the sudden and tragic death of their mother Jean Corr in late 1999. In addition, the Ischgl concert was the final gig for the Corrs on the BORROWED HEAVEN tour, and therefore this particular performance becomes even more poignant as one of the final moments of what now stands as the last major tour by the Corrs.

Funny Side of Formula One - Best of 1987
Video highlights showing outtakes and the funny side of Formula One during the 1987 season: -Murray Walker pokes fun at Alboreto's inability to beat whoever his teammate is, after Berger starts off beating him in the first race of the year in Brazil -A typical Murrayism, admitting he can't tell his front from his rear as Mansell blows his left rear tire in Brazil -Berger blows his engine at Spa and fogs up the pits -Alliot spins off and nearly takes out Prost at Spa (a prelude to James' Hunt's criticism later) -Senna sprays the royal family with champagne after winning at Monaco for the first time -Senna gets cheeky and waves to the crowd in Detroit, and David Hobbs shares a story about Senna's escapades after winning in Monaco -Berger fools around in the cockpit in Britain and De Cesaris sticks his fingers in his ears, fitting his earplugs while being watched by the camera -Murray reflects on the bad luck of the camera on Nakajima's car at Silverstone, limiting the amount of times we get to see shots from it (also a prelude for later on in the season and Murray's own luck when calling to see from the camera) -Piquet patiently sits on the podium waiting for Mansell after Nigel beats him to the victory in Britain in dramatic fashion -Mansell sits in his Williams wearing his headwear without his helmet, looking a bit like a Mexican wrestler -The McLaren jackman slips up and gets the jack stuck at the front of the car, delaying Prost in Germany -Alliot shows more of his ...

Faroes - Austria 1:0. Euro-92. TORKIL SKORAR!!!
Faroes - Austria 1:0. Euro-92. TORKIL SKORAR!!!
September 12th, 1990. Landskrona, Sweden. Itrottsplass stadium. Arguably the biggest ever sensation in the history of the people's game is about to be born... It's 61st minute of the Euro-92 qualifying between amateurs of Faroes and professionals of Austria. It's still goalless. Finally, Austrians got their golden opportunity to kill the excitement all around. After the long cross by Andreas Herzog, Faroese goalie Jens Martin Knudsen only was able to punch the ball away straight at the feet of Austrian defender Kurt Russ, placed perfectly just outside the penalty area. With an empty goal to aim at, his shot clipped the outside of post. Russ had hardly risen from beating the ground in frustration when Faroese N7, the elegant Torkil Nielsen, clearly the best player of the game, dribbled and fought his way through the Austrian defence... The 26 years old timber salesman was an exceptional sporting person. Although playing for a 2nd division club, SÍF from his home village of Sandavágur, population only 700, he was widely regarded in his own country as one of the best footballers. But apart from that, Torkil was a talented chess player and a member of National chess team. Just like Norwegian international striker and chess grandmaster Simen Agdestein at the same period, Torkil combined succesfully two sporting careers. Already in 1982, aged only 18, he represented Faroes in Chess Olympics in Lüzern, Switzerland, which was followed by two participations in OL in Saloniki ...

Jan. 24th 2011 This is the first part of a short trip from Austria to Germany through the small town of Lofer, the old border and then down the Steinpass. The weather is really bad and caution and concentration are the important things here especially getting down the snaking Steinpass. Because of the size and time limit imposed by Youtube I have had to cut this video in to two parts.

Austrian Votes Swing to the Right
Austrian Votes Swing to the Right
STORY: Austria's Social Democrats may have won the most votes in Sunday's parliamentary elections but the night belonged to the far right. Between them, Austria's two far right parties took almost a third of the vote - the rightists' biggest showing since 2000. Freedom Party leader, Heinz-Christian Strache called it "a beautiful victory" that put his party at the center of Austrian politics. [Heinz-Christian Strache, Far-Right Freedom Party]: "This was a clear jump ahead and it shows that we are Austria's third most powerful party." Joerg Haider's right-wing populist Alliance for Austria's Future almost tripled its vote, taking 11 percent. The two centrist parties - the Social Democrats and conservative People's Party - which have defined the country's post-war political landscape slumped to their worst showing since World War Two. The collapse of the left-right ruling coalition in July left voters angry and disillusioned with the mainstream parties. The lurch to the right however has left some Austrians uneasy. [Johann Frey, Austrian Voter]: "I grew up during a time when a swing to the right had consequences, grave consequences." By retaining their status as the largest single party, Werner Faymann's leftist Social Democrats will be tasked with forming a coalition government. And there's the rub. Feuding between the two centrist parties killed off their last alliance after only 18-months. This time cobbling together a Grand Coalition will be even tougher - particularly ...

Mieders Alpine Coaster (with no brakes!!)
BBC Story here www.bbc.co.uk EDP Article www.edp24.co.uk This is a single-pipe alpine coaster in Mieders, Austria. You reach the summit via a cablecar and then sit on a small car with a brake lever and off you go. Having ridden it once using a little braking, I decided to try it a second time without using the brakes. This is SCARY! Enjoy the ride! Off-ride footage here www.youtube.com Note - for websites linking the video, please note that my name is David Ellis (the J is my middle initial). WARNING - I have ridden almost 900 roller coasters around the world and am highly experienced with on-ride filming...so don't try to copy this. Coasters are fun, but taking risks could be dangerous. So always ride safely and abide by the operator's instructions and ride rules!
